12:54PM - Reading Dragon Storm RPG Ace Cards. Science or Mysticism? Maybe both.

From time to time it comes to my attention that there is confusion abounding in the DS Universe. In response to one of these I have written an article to present what we do and what our intentions are. If you have further questions, please ask.

Reading Dragon Storm RPG Ace Cards. Science or Mysticism? Maybe both.

Reading the Dragon Storm Ace cards is complicated by the space available. Our shorthand does not always allow for correct grammar, or even complete sentences.

1. If a card is Independent it starts with "Independent Card." in the text. In recent cards we have added (IND) to the card Type line to indicate that a card is an Independent card, this is a space conservation move. If a Cards text starts with "Independent Card." or has (IND) in the card Type line, it requires an Independent Action to use. If neither of these are on the card they require an Action to play.

2. Cards that require additional Independent Actions to activate the card have a special notation. When this occurs the Card Type Line will include (IND-4) where the number represents the number of Independents to be used to activate the card. The Independents may be allocated over a series of consecutive rounds to activate the card.

3. Cards that require Independent Actions each round to maintain them as an active card, will say so in the text. This Independent should be allocated at the beginning of the round. If an Independent Action is not allocated prior to the rounds start the card is immediately drained.

4. When reading contest roll bonuses the first number given is the bonus for the User of the card. The second number is for the Target. If only a single number is given it is for the User of the card, the target starts with a "Zero" bonus.

5. The cards themselves are intended to be pliable. They are meant to be bent by the Gamemaster to fit her campaign, and the current magic situation. Chaos abounds in the Warp and in any location close to Warp, and that is everywhere on Grandillar. Therefore the GM always has the final say on the interpretation of cards and how they function. Arguing about a GM's ruling is fruitless, they are correct. (In a side note, Od also contains a major Chaos component and is unreliable in regards to "rules".)

6. Cards which list (0 / F) in the card Type line are combined with an active card as it is played, and prior to finding out the result of the contest it is being added to. They may not be played without an Action to combine them with. As a simple example Dragon Claws is a (0 / F) card that adds +4 STR to an attack by a Dragon. The player could lay three of these on the table and add +12 STR to the attack they are currently performing. This also means that Dragon Claws may not be added to a Tail Strike. A Tail Strike uses an Independent Action to activate, not an Action. (While Independent Action and Action sound similar, they are two different concepts. Hindsight tells us we should have used dissimilar words for these concepts to avoid confusion. *sigh*)

10:45AM - On this day, 5 years ago

My beloved friesian said "yes" :)

There have been many ups and downs... goodness knows we almost gave it up, for 24 hours... but we're back now, and stronger than ever. The hardest nights are the ones I'm not with you, sweet hoss. I love you so very, very much.

Happy Anniversary, Equus :)

2:14PM - Music update.

Hey folks. It occurred to me that I forgot to post links for my non-FA followers, so remedying that now. I have three songs up of late, two of which are commissioned work and the latest is an expansion of my own technique.

Let It Rain:

Noteworthy in that this is my first attempt at serious multitracking, even on a small scale. There's 3 different tracks on this one, although only one is musical.

Mugsy's Liberation:

A commission to memorialize Mugsaith's beloved dog, now passed. It is also noteworthy in that this is the first song I was able to strip out and edit pieces of to more suit the commissioners vision.

The Shy Dolphin, Menokh:

My first commission! And happily so, a secret santa present intended for a dear friend of mine, Menokh. It came out well enough, and interest has been building slowly in commissions ever since.

I hope you enjoy these tracks, and have a safe and joyous holiday season as we move into 2010 where I will be performing at Further Confusion's Furry Night Live show for the first time in several years! If you are interested in having music done for your character, an image or animation, or just about anything you can think of, please let me know as the waiting slot is currently open. :)

I may consider multitracking for commissions at this point... I think I might want a little practice before I promise that to folks, though. We shall see :)

As always, thanks for listening!

12:35PM - Game notes, just to keep you up.

We have a new Beta Feature on the DS Beta Blog. It was submitted by one of you. You can use this link to pop over and take a look at it. This one will be difficult to point Value. It affects a number of players, but that factor will change with the quantity of characters in the party. It will also be much more devastating for low Wisdom characters and I am not sure how that should affect the point value. We will wait for you to indicate what you think.

2:17PM - Bidding to help out Britgeekgrrl

To help cover funeral expenses for the suddenly-departed Alex, there are items being auctioned at =
http://community.livejournal.com/britgeek_love/
I have put in a bid of $100 for the permanent LJ account = games.livejournal.com ... just because it's so me. ^_^ However - if you want to outbid me for such a good thing - please do so. It's to help out a really nice fangirl who finds herself in unfortunate circumstances.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and as always the show will be recorded in its entirety for watching at your own convenience :)

Please check www.shirerecords.com/ustream for more details or to watch previous shows! :)

3:04PM - The last few days

The xmas cards are addressed and out in the mail. I made 4 dried-fruit fruitcakes = 2 for my mom at her request [1 rum' 1 brandy]; 1 for my aunt and the last for the gamers [no alcohohol soak]. I took few nibbles after they cooled and were being wrapped - a few bits were left behind in the pans - and the base cake is fantastic.

Then in CoV my gal on the Virtue server built a base teleporter. There -should - be some sort of tutorial for it, but boojum's help was just as good. [shakes head] I like his new CoV character [Gwenvale], too. And tonight we go to a Sharks game [vs the Blues].

Current mood: chipper
